Teachers supporting teachers: Episode 9 with Hayley and Kathryn
We are five weeks in to flexible and remote learning in the state of Victoria, and Hayley and Kathryn are two weeks into being in this environment as pre-service teachers. This podcast has us having a virtual breakfast together on the morning of day ten of placement, just before the school day begins.
We talk about what a day on the life of a teacher looks like when teaching in the flexible and remote space, highlighting the use of technology plus strategies that are engaged with to support students to engage with learning this way.
I love the energy that comes from both Kathryn and Hayley, and I think you will as well as they talk about their experiences.
The big take aways to look out for are:
• Insights into having a growth mindset
• Seeing this as an opportunity to develop skills as a teacher in different pedagogical approaches
• Openness to engage with a mentor and teaching teams in unique ways
• The possibility for creativity to emerge in how you design learning opportunities
• Remembering to have strategies in place to support wellbeing for both yourself and the students you are working with
• Considering different ways to differentiate learning and support students to shine
• Celebrating the relationships formed that support you with accountability, and
• Looking for moments to smile and share joy.
